Ice Skating in the North End

Timmy and Phil invited us ice skating this afternoon in the North End. I don't think I have ever been ice skating before so I was excited to give it a try. It started at 2pm and we arrived a little early so we explored the North End. We walked by the old North Church where Paul Revere hung the laterns to warn the town.

Then came across this really cute small house

Then a grave yard where really really old people are buried.

Then it was finally time to skate! Skating was free and the shoe rentals were $5!

They were definitely weird to walk in and I struggled walking up and down the stairs with them I was quite a sight! The guys got a good laugh.

I finally got a hang of it and then the Zamboni came out and we had to switch directions. I did not do well going the other way! I had my first fall of the afternoon taking poor John down with me. Timmy and Phil both had a good laugh!

After skating we were all exhausted! Heading home I had a not so healthy menu planned for dinner. John picked up steaks yesterday so I decided to make those for dinner. We used a rub that we got for Christmas which turned out to be amazing! I definitely will be using this rub on other meats!

For sides I made asparagus and a side salad. I decided to go a little fancy and add granny smith apple, pecans and gorgonzola cheese with a homemade honey mustard balsamic vinaigrette.

For dessert I have been dying to use my creme brulee kit I got for Christmas. I finally stopped by the store to pick up the butane needed for the torch today.

It was sooo good! the sugar layer wasn't as crispy as when you order them in restaurants but it pretty amazing! We ate these while watching the Oscars.

Fuji at Kendall

John is finally arrived back home after his flight kept getting delayed last night, which meant a late bed time for both of us. I ended up sleeping in until about 9:30 while John slept in until 11:45am. This is unheard of I am the one who loves to stay in bed and normally he hates it! (he must still be on CA time) Since our day was off to a late start we ran a few errands and I decided I wanted to try something new for dinner. So I googled and didn't find anything that struck my fancy then I remembered a new Asian restaurant near work Fuji at Kendall.

Walking in the interior was simple but nicely the front of the restaurant was all windows and if you sat a the bar you could watch them prepare the food. We were seated at a cute little table for 2 and they had the cutest little settings. A pot for soy sauce and a small saucer.

For dinner I was having a hard time choosing so I decided at last to go with the philly cheese steak roll (really weird right?) and an avocado mango roll.

Both were really good, the philly cheese steak roll was just that steak and peppers wrapped in rice with a cheese sauce on top. At first bite I wasn't to sure but the flavors actually worked well together.John  ordered a combo plate of fishy ones (I'm not a huge fan of the ones containing fish I usually go veterinarian when it comes to sushi) One of his rolls was called a caterpillar roll it was to cute it came looking like a caterpillar.

The eyes were actually made of octopus suckers, those were not eaten. After dinner we met Cart for a drink at Meadhall another newish bar in Kendall. Then off to bed to prepare for a day of ice skating!

Veggie Wontons

I remembered half way through the day today that I had some left over veggie wontons in the freezer that I made a few weeks ago.

carrots, radishes, red peppers, mushrooms, cabbage, and bok choy.

All chopped up and mixed together.

I steamed them up in a veggie steamer made to fit in a sauce pan.

Some of them broke open in the steamer, for dipping sauce I used these 2.

I ate all 10 of them, they were tiny and filled with nothing but veggies.

Now I just sit and wait on the couch until 11pm when I pick John up from the airport.  YAY!!!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Pasta and salad

I have nothing let in my fridge except all the left over beer from our super bowl party and since that really isn't considered dinner I decided on having just pasta and some salad.

I just used these ingredients

Cooked both in a sauce pan and mixed together.

For the salad I had romaine lettuce, radishes, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes and some blue cheese on top.

This is my last night alone John comes home tomorrow I'm picking him up at the airport. I am so excited to see we haven't seen each other since last Friday.

Magoun's Saloon

Last night I had the pleasure of sharing dinner with Timmy, he had yet to go food shopping and I haven't seen Timmy in a while so we decided to grab a quick bite at the pub between our apts Magoun's. It was Cajun night where they had special cajun meals on the menu. Were were going to split an order of the alligator bites but sadly they were out. Instead I ordered the Vietnamese Bahn sandwich with a side salad. In the sandwich was house roasted pork, Asian slaw, fresh chopped cilantro and cucumbers, it was yummy but also huge I ended up taking half home for lunch tomorrow.

This is the left over half since I have the old camera it takes such shitty pictures. So I had to settle for a picture when I got home.

To cute not to share

Pasta w/tomatoes & asparagus

While at Sarah's this weekend we were talking food and she mentioned that putting laughing cow cheese in with pasta is pretty good and not that unhealthy compared to other things, so I thought I'd give it a try.
I started the noodles cooking and while waiting on them I cut up some tomatoes and asparagus and leftover chicken from last nights dinner.

Sauteed them in a pan.

Then I added the cooked noodles and 2 pieces of laughing cow garlic and herb cheese.

It turned out ok, it needed a little something f I wasn't so hungry I would have taken the time to add some spices but I couldn't wait any longer my tummy was grumbling so I ate as is. :)
